Event description

BIOGRAPHY

Steph Rue is a book artist and papermaker. She received her MFA in book arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book in 2015. She studied traditional Korean book and papermaking on a Fulbright to Korea in 2015-2016 (she kept a journal here). Steph currently resides in Sacramento, CA with her husband Daniel and one-year-old daughter Winnie.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I draw, collage, cut, sew, weave, and print with or on handmade paper. My work is informed by my interest in religion and spirituality as well as my background in traditional Korean book and paper arts. I seek to integrate spirituality and materiality, traditional and contemporary techniques, East and West, into a piece that can be read, prayed, or held in the hand.

This event is presented by the BIPOC Virtual Open Print Studio.
