Pink is a color that has cultural significance associated with femininity to connote tenderness, fragility and softness. It comes to color the way that a body, or a body of work, is seen when this hue is employed, either being inherently feminine or queer. Yet, pink is more than a stifling signifier. We exploit this cultural signifier to draw attention to the soft pink of the flesh in the literal and the metaphorical to unpack queer trauma from two differing queer perspectives. The work is soft and tender through its materiality and its content. One makes work from a diaristic perspective to navigate the trauma of her lost queer adolescence. The other makes work to negotiate and navigate his past abuses in the present. "soft pink" is about tenderness in and of the flesh made legible through fibrous materials unpacking desire for a moment one can never have back. These works are put in conversation with one another to act as backdrop and facilitator for broader conversations around queer trauma(s), in whatever capacity, to give credence and space to the nuance of queer subjectivity.
