Communication to Students about Spring 2021

The message below was emailed to CCA students on November 18, 2020.

Dear Students,

This email will provide you with up-to-date information on spring 2021 semester planning, including how CCA will manage increased access to our campus. Please keep in mind that we have developed plans with the health and safety of all as our first goal.

All of our plans and policies are meant to be responsive to the conditions of the pandemic and we are prepared to ease or increase restrictions as needed. It is our hope that throughout the spring we will see improved control of the pandemic, and if so we may be able to offer additional access.

We will continue to provide more information as we get closer to the spring semester and details become available.

Campus Access

We will prioritize campus access for graduating seniors, graduate students, and students enrolled in hybrid courses. Once the details are solidified, hours and reservation instructions will be available on the CCA Portal.

The Back Lot on the San Francisco campus will be available to use for some scheduled in-person instruction related to hybrid classes. Some indoor shops on both campuses will be available to reserve for two-hour sessions with limited occupancy and limited work spaces. Some indoor and outdoor spaces for individual project work may be reservable. Shop access will be managed based on available resources as well as health and safety guidelines outlined in local public health directives. Again, we will provide details on the Portal once they are confirmed.

The online support via the CCA Maker’s Commons will continue through the spring semester.

Covid Related Health and Safety Procedures

CCA has developed a return-to-campus plan in conjunction with infectious disease experts from Kaiser and Stanford. The plan includes details for social distancing, masks, cleaning protocols, screening, and testing. A Workday Journey will guide all campus-based staff, faculty, and students through these protocols. COVID testing will be mandatory for all individuals who spend one day a week or more on campus.  Student testing will be covered by insurance via One Medical; any student without CCA insurance will have a One Medical membership provided by CCA.

Campus Housing, Dining, and Meal Plans

Housing is available in Founders Hall for all students who are in need of a clean, safe space for the semester, with reliable internet access, in-house dining, and a welcoming community of fellow art and design students. Check out the Founders Hall virtual tour.

Per the latest health orders, all units will be single occupancy (1 person per sleeping room). Please visit the following links for detailed information:

Our amazing team of RAs and professional staff is prepared to support students and ensure they have the resources and information they need during this time. The CCA ResEd team will be providing various living and learning programming, while also following health and safety protocols such as requiring face coverings, social distancing, and proper hand-washing. Please direct questions as follows:

Registration

Registration is currently open through Wednesday, November 25 at 3:00 pm Pacific Time to register or make adjustments via Workday to your spring 2021 schedule until the add/drop period starting on January 19, 2021.

You received a message to your CCA email with specifics on how to register and/or make adjustments yesterday (11/17). If you have any questions, please contact Student Records or join one of the drop-in sessions via Zoom.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions programs will continue remotely, similar to fall 2020. The online Class of 2021 Showcase will be the primary means of showcasing work by graduating students during the commencement timeframe. We continue to evaluate the possibility of limited physical artwork installations, prioritizing access for graduating seniors, graduate students, and students enrolled in hybrid courses. We will have more information when we return for the spring semester.

Commencement

The Commencement Planning Committee invites all eligible graduating seniors to participate in a focus group. Eligible graduating seniors are those who have completed or will be completing their degrees during the following academic periods: summer 2020, fall 2020, spring 2021, and summer 2021.

The purpose of the conversation is to learn and hear your ideas about planning this year's commencement experience given some of the challenges posed due to the pandemic.

Commencement Planning Committee: Focus Group for Graduating Seniors:

  • Friday, November 20, 2020
  • 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm (Pacific Time)
  • Register here.

For those who are unable to attend, a short survey will be sent out at a later date.
