COVID-19 Information for Faculty

Remote Teaching Resources

While teaching remotely is a departure from CCA’s learning experience, our department chairs will work with their faculty to facilitate alternative lesson plans that accommodate students’ needs and meet the course learning outcomes for their classes. Faculty may choose to deliver instruction through the use of a variety of tools, such as Zoom or other web-based applications. Please be aware that students in some countries will not have access to G-suite (Google) or certain other applications. More information is coming soon.

Course Design, Planning, and Building

Academic Affairs has compiled a number of resources to assist faculty in this transition.

Teaching Lab

We have workshops and resources to help you transition to online teaching. ETS, Instructional Services and the Library, and the Teaching Lab team will be hosting all workshops via Zoom to reduce trips to campus. The Teaching Lab Portal page has more information, and also shows you know which events are happening every day.

Teaching and Learning Online

The CCA Library has many resources and guidance for faculty who need to move classes online and for students transitioning to online learning. Check out this helpful LibGuide to Teaching Online, which includes information on what we offer in terms of technological platforms and what students can use remotely, including from China.

Learning Outcomes

We ask you to consider recalibrating your attendance policies for the remainder of the semester, taking into account flexibility for COVID-19 concerns and possible reduced access during online instruction, while still maintaining course integrity. Unexcused absences are still unexcused; however, we request that faculty be understanding about what constitutes an unexcused absence.

Workplace Guidelines + Wellness Resources

Please visit the Workplace Guidelines During COVID–19 Closure Portal page for information on key policies for our remote work environment, updated paid leave policies, and tips and resources for staying connected while working apart. For a detailed FAQ on COVID-19 policies and procedures as they related to faculty, please click here.

CCA’s Employee Assistance Program is available to eligible employees at 800-834-3773 or for help with feelings of stress or anxiety.

Campus Access

Both CCA campuses are closed until further notice. Exceptions include residence-hall access for students who have been approved to remain in student housing, and limited access for employees and students who need to retrieve essential items. Please respect the public health order to stay at home, and do not come to campus unnecessarily.

See the Campus Access Information page for details and information about accessing campus.

Faculty Campus Access for Audio/Video Recording

We have finalized both the process for scheduling rooms to record audio and videos to be used for your online classes, as well as as the required instructions for you to be able to return to campus in order to do this essential work and adhere to the local and institutional guidelines for health and safety at this time. To reserve an audio/video recording kit for filming at home please visit CCA Media Center's Web Checkout or contact

In partnership with Creative Instructional Technologies, Facilities and Operations, the following list of rooms are currently available for reservation on both the SF and Oakland campuses. They were selected first and foremost for their ability to bring in outside air either through ducted HVAC systems or from operable windows. The limited number is also to contain the areas of cleaning for facilities staff and contact tracing on campus. Information regarding equipment available in each room will also be listed as well, so please review before submitting your reservation. If you would like to request an alternative location for recording on either campus, you will also have the opportunity to request the use of another space, but it will first need to be reviewed by Academic Divisions and our partner CCA departments coordinating these operational services to see if it can be accommodated.

Rooms Available for Reservation

We anticipate that most requests will average between 1 to 2 hours, but if you desire a longer appointment, we will try our best to accommodate. Please use the following form to schedule a recording at least 1 business day before desired appointment times between 9am-5pm Monday thru Friday for Standard Recording Rooms. Please note that it will take additional time to review Alternative Space Requests, so please plan accordingly. As we will need to arrange for you to gain access to campus buildings and rooms with your CCA ID, we will not be able to process same day requests.

Below are processes that CCA is following to ensure a safe community on campus. As a reminder, our protocols are subject to change as we receive more information from the SF Department of Public Health and other resources.

Daily Health Assessment

All CCA community members (staff, faculty and students) are required to complete a daily health assessment on the days that they plan to physically be on campus. This assessment must be completed prior to arriving on campus. The assessment can be found here. It's very important to follow the notification instructions if you answer YES to any of the questions.

COVID-19 Testing

As is our current process, if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, have been exposed to COVID-19 or tested positive for COVID-19, you must notify HR immediately. You will be advised to immediately quarantine for a minimum of 14 days since exposure or the onset of symptoms and to seek testing or medical care. You'll be required to provide HR with a negative COVID-19 test result prior to returning to campus.

Health & Safety Guidelines

Please continue to follow and comply with these guidelines when you are physically on campus and reach out to HR at with any questions.

Thank you for supporting our culture of care!
