Whether you’re a first-year, transfer, graduate, international, or continuing student, living in CCA residence halls can enhance every aspect of your college experience.

CCA's Live On-Campus Requirement

All students are required to live on campus for their first and second academic years.


Required students who do not want to live on campus may apply for an exemption, if they meet any of the following criteria:

● Medical needs as recommended by a doctor

● Financial need*

● Married or parenting student

● A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces who has submitted a DD214 form to student records

● A commuter (Resides with parent(s) or court-appointed guardian(s) within a 40-mile radius of California College of the Arts Main Campus of 1111 8th St, San Francisco

Requests are not final until they are reviewed and a determination (approved or denied) is made by the Office of Housing and Residential Life. Click here to fill out an exemption request form if you meet the above criteria and have all support materials accessible.

*For students who are residing outside the US and unable to access google forms, please use the supplemental form listed above under resources for the financial need exemption.

NOTE: The above requirement will include incoming transfer students starting Fall 2020 so if you are applying to CCA for academic year 2020-2021, please revisit this page later this Fall.

2019 - 2020 Academic Year Move-In Information

Check in will be available starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 24, 2019, and thereafter, 7 days a week from 8:00am - 12:00 am midnight. If you need to check in outside of these hours, please contact us at as soon as possible.

At check in you will receive your room keys, building access, mail box key, and mail information. Please make sure to bring a photo ID with you to verify your identity at check in!
