Temporary shift to online instruction through Jan. 31

Posted January 6, 2022, 6:03 PM

Dear CCA Community,

We hope you’ve had a good winter break, and we’re excited to welcome you back to campus for a fully in-person spring semester.

The CCA community’s exemplary adherence to COVID-19 prevention protocols and vaccine and booster requirements gives us great confidence that we will have a successful, in-person spring. The current, post-holiday surge in positive cases related to the Omicron variant presents a new challenge, however.

As a proactive measure to support the health and safety of our community and ensure a smooth return to campus, instruction will take place online for the first two weeks of the semester, January 18–31. Our regular, in-person course schedule will resume beginning Tuesday, February 1.

This temporary shift to online instruction will protect our community by reducing density on our campuses during this surge, and will provide flexibility for students who are encountering challenges related to travel. It will also allow time for recently received COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots to take full effect.

During this two-week period, CCA’s campuses and housing will be open. See below for additional important information.

For Students:

  • The spring term begins Tuesday, January 18. Classes will meet virtually for the first two weeks, January 18–31.
  • Classes will be online, but studios and all campus facilities will be open and staffed to the best of our ability.
  • Vaccines are required for all students unless you have an approved exemption, and we strongly encourage all students to receive a booster shot as soon as you are eligible. If you have received your booster, see instructions to upload your booster status here.
  • Students must upload a negative COVID-19 test result prior to returning to campus. See instructions to upload your test status here.
  • Residential students will receive additional information in a separate email. New residents are encouraged to delay their arrival to campus until January 28 if possible, but may move in earlier if necessary. Returning residents may move in at any time.
  • Be sure to check your email often for updates and additional communications.

For Faculty and Staff:

  • The spring term begins Tuesday, January 18. Classes will meet virtually, according to the published class schedule, for the first two weeks, January 18–31.
  • Classes will be online, but studios and all campus facilities will be open and staffed to the best of our ability.
  • Vaccines and booster shots are required for all faculty and staff who will spend time on campus, unless you have an approved exemption. See instructions to upload or update your vaccine and booster status here.
  • All faculty and staff must upload a negative COVID-19 test result prior to returning to campus. See instructions to upload a negative test result here.
  • Staff who are able to work remotely are encouraged to do so through January 31 to reduce density on campus. Arrangements should be made directly with your manager.

Remember, if you are sick, stay home! If you have a positive test, are showing symptoms, or have had close contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19 (defined as being within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period), you should follow the steps outlined here.

We are proud of the care our CCA community has shown for one another throughout the pandemic, and of our high vaccination rates, compliance with safety protocols, and unwavering support for one another’s well-being. We are confident that this culture of care, along with the proactive measures outlined above, will enable us to safely begin a successful spring 2022 semester together.
