UPDATE: Power restored 10/25/22

Contractors were able to quickly resolve the issues and nearly all electrical service was restored before 9 am. The electricians and studio staff are checking specific machines. As of 9 am, only the furniture dust collector remains offline and the laser HVAC is not properly clearing out fumes from cutting acrylics, so no use of acrylics until further notice.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Late Friday afternoon (10/21/22) there was an electrical malfunction in a panel box that supplied most of the stationary equipment in the Fabrication and Rapid Prototyping Studios. Electricians were on campus within the hour to begin assessing and repairing the affected fuses, wire runs, and subpanels. As of Monday morning (10/24/22), some equipment use has returned, though additional work continues to get everything fully back online.

As of Monday, 10/24, the status of upstairs shops and studios is:

  • Offline: CNC; Furniture Studio: all powered equipment, dust collection; Model Shop: table saws, band saws, sanders, Powermatic lathe, vacuum former, dust collection; Spray Booth, Lasers.
  • Working: Sanding Room, Welding Shop, Metal Shop, Laser Room, Tool Center, Model Shop: Delta midi lathes, chop saw, drill presses, table router, drill presses, table router, precision lathe, benchtop mills, Singer industrial sewing machine.

There will be a planned electrical shut-down Tuesday, October 25, from 5 am to 9 am to enable electricians to repair and test the electrical pathways impacted by this event.

In anticipation of this work, all students and faculty should back up any work being done on computers in the main building (1111 Eighth St.). Any printing jobs or information in printer queues overnight must be completed before the shutdown to avoid loss or disruption.
