RRR Assistant Editor

Last updated on Aug 02, 2023

The CCA Exhibitions Team seeks an individual passionate about contemporary art, design, and writing to assist the Lead Editor in producing Rewind Review Respond (RRR). RRR is an online forum where CCA students write about the ideas that affect their practice, communities, and fields of study. The forum was founded by Katherine Jemima Hamilton (Visual and Critical Studies, Curatorial Practice 2022) in fall 2020, to help foster conversation and a sense of connection at CCA during a time of social-distance learning. It continues as a site for discussion and collaboration across CCA divisions, and as an opportunity for professional development.

The Assistant Editor will assist the Lead Editor in editing, copy-editing, and proofreading reviews and interviews for the RRR column, and review audio and visual work. They will reach out to current CCA students from a broad range of disciplines to respond to events and exhibitions, and shepherd them through the editorial process. The Assistant Editor will also be expected to produce one or two responses to an event or exhibition during the semester.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Google Drive (Google docs and editing tools within Google docs especially)
  • Previous experience editing written text in English
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail and an ability to work independently
  • Some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign is an asset but not required
  • Some experience in video or audio editing also an asset but not required

The Assistant Editor works closely with RRR's Lead Editor, who is a current grad student, and reports to CCA's Gallery Manager (staff). The Assistant Editor is required to work one weekly 5-hour shift at the CCA Campus Gallery at 1480 17th Street to accommodate regular meetings with the Lead Editor and Gallery Manager.

The Assistant Editor may be promoted to Lead Editor of RRR at the end of the academic year if they are eligible to hold a Graduate Assistantship and meet or exceed performance expectations.

Hourly Rate: $18.07.

Hours: 5–7 hours per week on average; hours may vary based on delivery deadlines.
