Visiting Artists - CCA MFA in Comics

Last updated on Nov 29, 2023

Visiting professionals from all areas of the comics industry, including cartoonists, publishers, agents, academics, retailers, etc. are a staple of CCA’s graduate comics program. There are two different ways students interact with these guests.

The first is through guest lectures, meet-ups, and interviews conducted either on campus during our in-person classes or virtually during our online classes. Such guests have included Eisner Hall of Fame cartoonist and comics herstorian Trina Robbins, Eisner-winning comics scholar Frederick Louis Aldama, legendary comics retailer Brian Hibbs, etc.

Additionally, the program sponsors Comics in the City: Visiting Artists Lecture Series, which takes place on the CCA campus during the summer session and beyond and affords students the opportunity to meet some of today’s most celebrated comics creators. The visiting artists present their work and are interviewed onstage, with a reception afterward. During the pandemic all of this has occurred virtually, and we will be continuing some virtual Comics in the City programming in the future.

These events are free and open to the public. They are also recorded and archived, so everyone can access them. Check out the links below to see our most recent visiting artists. View previous years' guests by navigating the sidebar menu. In 2017, CCA's MFA in Comics program hosted the international Queers & Comics Conference, and some of those recordings are available here as well.
