Academic program locations for fall 2022

During the two-year construction of our new Double Ground campus, which begins this summer on the Backlot, some of CCA’s programs will be temporarily relocated and others will land in their permanent homes. Nearly all, however, will be located within our existing campus footprint including our main building at 1111 Eighth Street and others in the surrounding blocks.

Our campus will undoubtedly feel different in the fall with all of our programs together, and we’re especially grateful to everyone who has worked so closely with us over many months to understand and reflect the needs of our Oakland-based programs that will be moving to San Francisco, as well as those that were already here. The majority of programs already based in San Francisco will remain in their current spaces, while a few (Fashion Design, Game Arts, Interaction Design) will occupy new spaces within the same or nearby buildings. Several programs moving from Oakland to San Francisco will be located in our main building at 1111 Eighth Street, including Animation, Ceramics, Jewelry and Metal Arts, and Sculpture. Textiles will have a new home at 350 Kansas Street adjacent to the Wattis Institute.

We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with the historic RayKo Photo Center, a fully equipped professional photo studio with purpose-built darkroom, classroom, and gallery space, to provide facilities for our Photography and Printmedia programs during the construction of Double Ground. RayKo is just two blocks from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and walkable and bikeable from our main campus. This partnership further connects CCA to the larger art and design community, and we’re excited about continuing to partner with organizations and facilities such as Public Glass, the Center for the Book, and others as we build our new campus—and beyond.

The locations below are subject to change. The table below will be updated as final plans are drawn, and construction is completed. These are the primary locations for each program. Individual classes may be scheduled in other locations across campus. More details about administrative and student support services will be coming soon.
