This exhibition invites artists to challenge how we see food in art as a subject, and to see it as a source of connection, sustainability, and material inspiration.
By encouraging participatory and community-driven works, the exhibition reimagines the PLAySPACE Gallery as a site of sensory connection and shared experience. Artists are invited to explore materials, processes, and workshops that sustain the same sense of togetherness that food might evoke. Whether through works inspired by food, materials tied to cultural traditions, or sustainably made pieces that reflect care for community and environment.
We’re looking for work that engages with one or more of the following:
- Participatory art and community engagement: collaborative, workshop-based, or socially engaged projects
- Cultural ties to food: sensory-based work or materials inspired by food traditions (example natural pigments/inks, herbs)
- Performance or workshops: participatory experiences that foster connection and collaboration
- Sustainability and ecology: natural dyes, bio-based or biodegradable materials, ecological awareness, food systems, or land relations
- Social issues: food access, labor, consumption, or waste
- Painting, sculpture, or installation: work that reimagines and transforms material and process through the lens of food or sustainability
We encourage submissions from artists working across disciplines, including those whose practice intersects with sustainability, storytelling, participatory art, performance and interdisciplinary practices. Collaborative and community-based projects are welcome.
