Get a glimpse in this video of the Measure RR bond funded track work crews are conquering near West Oakland. BART rigged cameras to all sorts of equipment and interviewed crew members to showcase the tremendous effort taking place around the clock to quickly get the job done in time to reopen for the weekday commute. You’ll also learn why we must close the track for this work.
The new infrastructure being put in is meant to double if not triple the life span of critical track components. This section of track is crucial because all transbay trains pass through it and they use the interlocking to merge all the lines together when heading westbound towards the Transbay Tube. When coming from the tube, they use it to maneuver trains onto the various BART lines.
The work and track closure between West Oakland and 19th Street and West Oakland and Lake Merritt continues this weekend, Labor Day weekend, and finishes up the weekend of September 22-23.
Free AC Transit buses will get you around the track closure. The buses are frequent and fast.
Measure RR is a $3.5 billion bond measure approved by nearly 70% of voters n November 2016. The funds can only be used to rebuild our infrastructure and plan for system investments in the future like a second Transbay Tube.
