Event description

FOOTWEAR DESIGN WORKSHOP : Info to introduce course available Spring 2023

This fantastic Footwear Design workshop led by Caroline de Baere will be held on campus Thursday October 6th from 3-4p.m. We have plenty of seats in the Nave Alcove so no advance sign up is necessary!.

Our 1 hour footwear design workshop will introduce Fashion and Industrial Design students to footwear design concepts. Our time together will begin with a footwear industry overview and of how industry and inspirational research impact footwear ideation, sketching, development and manufacturing.

Our discussion will include an intro to the foundation of footwear last shapes, construction methods and materials. We will also feature a discussion of traditional and contemporary prototyping practices and 2D/digital communication of intended designs.

A key takeaway will be an initial understanding of what the Spring 2023 semester will include for students who register for the footwear design course elective as well as how execution of accurate sketching of footwear concepts to scale by hand or digitally will render accurate prototypes.

California College of the Arts campuses are located in Huichin and Yelamu, also known as Oakland and San Francisco, respectively, on the unceded territories of Chochenyo and Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who have continuously lived upon this land since time immemorial. We recognize the historic discrimination and violence inflicted upon Indigenous peoples in California and the Americas, including their forced removal from ancestral lands, and the deliberate and systematic destruction of their communities and culture. CCA honors Indigenous peoples—past, present, and future—here and around the world, and we wish to pay respect to local elders, including those of the lands from which you are joining us virtually today. If you are unsure of who's land you are currently residing upon, we encourage you to visit native-land.ca.
