Event description

The Annual Bay Area Undergraduate Art History Research Symposium will take place on April 15th from 1pm-4:30pm at Timken Hall with a reception to follow in room E1. This will be the first year CCA's students will be invited to present alongside undergraduate researchers from Stanford University, Mills College, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, St. Mary’s College of California, the University of San Francisco, and UC Berkeley.

Welcome & Introduction

2.) Lisa Li (UC Berkeley), Elephants in the Room: Metamorphosis of the Chinese “Elephant-with-Vase” in Seventeenth-century Safavid Empire and Japan

3.) Angie Lopez (Stanford University), In a Queer Time and Spirit: The Cross-Temporality and Mysticism of Georgiana Houghton’s Spirit Drawings

For visitors: 

  • Please come in at the Irwin St entrance. There will be someone at the security desk to guide you to Timken Lecture Hall for the symposium.

Parking and Transportation:

  • Parking can be found throughout the CCA Campus. There is free 4-hour parking on Irwin St, 7th St, 8th St, and De Haro St. There is also metered parking on De Haro in front of Kohler. Please arrive early for parking as there are multiple events taking place in the area on Saturday. You can also reserve a space in advance with either SpotHero or SpotAngels.

  • Public Transport: Exit BART Train at Civic Center Station (8th Street). Walk to 8th Street & Market Street (In front of Chase building across Whole Foods). Take the Muni bus 19 to 15th Street and Rhode Island and walk 2 blocks east.
