Join us for a conversation with contemporary art curator Tanya Zimbardo.
Tanya Zimbardo is a contemporary art curator based in San Francisco. As the assistant curator of media arts at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Zimbardo has curated solo exhibitions of work by Jim Campbell, Runa Islam, Pat O'Neill, and Kerry Tribe. She recently curated Future Histories: Theaster Gates and Cauleen Smith and is currently organizing Speculative Portraits opening in April 2022. She co-curated Nothing Stable under Heaven, Soundtracks, and Nam June Paik: In Character, among other exhibitions. Zimbardo has (co-)curated select film and video screening programs at the museum, for nonprofit organizations, and independently, including Proximities: Four Films by Cauleen Smith for San Francisco Cinematheque, Merce Cunningham: Assemblage at Ghirardelli Square, Lynn Marie Kirby: Collaborations with Etel Adnan at Mill Valley Public Library, Barbara Hammer: Cinema of Intimacy at The Roxie, Alison O’Daniel: The Tuba Thieves at McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, and Center of Gravity: Gunvor Nelson and Dorothy Wiley for San Francisco Cinematheque. Zimbardo has locally guest (co-)curated exhibitions and related public programs for the Berkeley Art Center, di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Krowswork, Mills College Art Museum, The 500 Capp Street Foundation, and the Worth Ryder Art Gallery, UC Berkeley.
