Event description
Book Launch and Celebration organized by The History of Art and Visual Culture Program
This program celebrates the release of the edited volume Art, Hope, Action: Creative Praxis in Pandemic Times by bringing together artists, scholars, and cultural workers who contributed to the publication. Panelists include TT Takemoto, Moises de la Cruz, Connie Zheng, and Cheryl Derricotte. The event will conclude with a collective conversation moderated by Padma Maitland, editor of Art, Hope, Action.
The volume Art, Hope, Action: Creative Praxis in Pandemic Times features a diverse group of artists, scholars, and activists offering an interdisciplinary and critical look at hope’s potential for form, method, and action. Using materials from the exhibition After Hope: Videos of Resistance, the volume explores themes such as solidarity, queer theory, environmental degradation, narratives of exile, resilience, resistance, and the possibility of escape—as well as return. How do we plant the seeds for new and eclectic futures? What dreams shape our visions of togetherness? Can art challenge us to change and make a difference? This collection includes essays, interviews, photographs, ephemera, and more, centering the work of artists from across Asia and its diaspora, along with their connections to like-minded artists and activists around the world, as guides and catalysts for further inquiry.
