Event description
This symposium brings together architects, designers, and researchers to discuss the use of biomaterials in contemporary architecture and design. Work presented includes experimental prototypes for biomaterials from various classes within CCA which will be exhibited concurrently with the symposium. As an emerging field, biodesign interrogates the materials of design looking at issues of embodied energy, environmental performance and life cycle analysis.
Integrated with these novel materials are methods of fabrication and assemblies which suggest new ways of coexistence with natural systems, consideration of natural processes and forms of care. A collaborative team research project, currently under development for the 2024 Biodesign Challenge with students from CCA and UCSF, will be featured.
A presentation of CCA Architecture / Autodesk Technology Centers Academic Alliance.
