Event description
On the occasion of the exhibition Anicka Yi: 7,070,430K of Digital Spit in 2015, Kunsthalle Basel and Anicka Yi republished her very first monograph on handmade incense paper infused with an original fragrance devised by the artist in collaboration with the perfumer Barnabé Fillion to embody the smell of forgetting. Those in possession of 7,070,430K of Digital Spit, A Memoir are encouraged to literally “burn after reading,” releasing the fragrance while destroying the object in a commentary on commodification in the art world.
Writer Andrew Berardini, a recent Bay Area transplant from LA, owns a copy of this limited edition book, and leads members of the San Francisco art community in a reading and ritual burning. Artist Leah Rosenberg creates a signature cocktail for the event. More info on participants coming soon.
Andrew Berardini is a writer, curator, and editor. His book Colors was published by Not a Cult in 2023. A longtime contributor to Artforum and the former critic of the LA Weekly, he is currently contributing editor at Art-Agenda, Mousse, and Momus.
Leah Rosenberg’s art practice spans painting, installation, sculpture, printmaking, and food, focusing on the role of color in our lives, as well as its emotional and psychological impact.
This is the fifth event in our year-long season dedicated to thinking about our contemporary moment through the lens of Anicka Yi’s work.
