Event description
Join us for a dynamic conversation with interdisciplinary artist Jota Mombaça and art critic and philosopher Darla Migan on the subjects of displacement, dispossession, the sounds of water, the material limits of racialization, and the role of water in global logistics, filtered through their South American and Caribbean upbringings.
Interdisciplinary Brazilian artist Jota Mombaça’s first U.S. exhibition, titled THE SINKING SHIP/PROSPERITY, will be on view at Kadist this fall from October 27 OCT 2022–January 28 2023. The exhibition considers speculative memory, the dynamics of excess, and grieving time, and their connection to bodies of water. On the evening of November 14th, Mombaça and art critic and philosopher Darla Migan will discuss displacement, dispossession, the sounds of water, the material limits of racialization, and the role of water in global logistics, filtered through their South American and Caribbean upbringings. Mombaça and Migan met in 2017 after the artist gave a performance for the 10th Berlin Biennale, and they have continued the dialogue since.
This event is co-presented with the Kadist.
