Event description

Tagame Gengoroh is one of the world's most widely regarded gay erotic artists, and the most influential and prolific creator of “gei komi,” or gay male manga. He has created over 20 graphic novels, many of which have been translated into English, French, Spanish, and Korean. The Passion of Gengoroh Tagame (Picturebox 2013, Fantagraphics 2022) was the first English-language collection of gei komi.

My Brother's Husband (Futabasha 2013, Pantheon 2017), the first "all-ages" gay manga created by an out creator for a general audience, garnered Tagame-sensei a Japan Media Arts Award, a Japan Cartoonists Association Award, and an Eisner Award. A co-creator of the seminal gay magazine G-Men in 1995, Tagame-sensei is also an avid historian of gay Japanese art and the creator of the multi-volume series Gay Erotic Art in Japan.

Tagame-sensei’s lush illustrations and BDSM-oriented stories of muscular, hairy, and masculine men have had a profound impact upon gay media and culture in Japan and beyond.

NOTE: This event is 18+. There will be graphic imagery shown and discussed.

The evening will begin with a presentation and discussion with the guest. Seating in Timken auditorium is first-come-first-served. Next to the auditorium in the Nave Presentation Space (NPS) there will be a live simulcast for audience arriving after the main auditorium reaches capacity. Following the discussion, there will be a book signing in NPS. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Sour Cherry Comics.
