Event description
In 2023 Mexico City-based curator and researcher Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodríguez published Let’s Become Fungal!: Mycelium Teachings and the Arts, which shares innovative practices from Latin America and the Caribbean that are rooted in multispecies collaboration, symbiosis, alliances, non-monetary resource exchange, decentralization, bottom-up methods, and mutual dependency—all in line with the behavior of the mycelium. Every chapter is phrased as a question. Based on the methodology of the book, Ostendorf-Rodríguez in collaboration with Brazilian artist Jorge Menna Barreto offers a four-hour workshop to delve deeper into one of the twelve questions posed by the book. From a Mycelial Meditation to a collective reading to a mushroom-based lunch conceived of and created by local artist and chef Leif Hedendal, this workshop will be of interest to anyone who wants to become more fungal in their ways of working, collaborating, and being.
Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodríguez works as a curator and researcher on art and ecology She is based in Mexico-City.
Jorge Menna Barreto is a Brazilian artist and educator, whose practice and research have been dedicated to site-specific art for over 20 years. He is Assistant Professor in the Art Department at the University of California Santa Cruz.
Leif Hedendal’s cuisine focuses on highly seasonal and underutilized vegetables, urban agriculture projects, and wildcrafted ingredients.
This is the sixth event in our year-long season season dedicated to thinking about our contemporary moment through the lens of Anicka Yi’s work.
