Event description
The Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts invites you to a discussion between artists and friends Ester Partegàs and Stephen Lichty on the topic of sculpture, happening in conjunction with our exhibition, STEADY: Michelle Lopez and Ester Partegàs.
Ester Partegàs is an artist who creates conditions of possibility for building forms of relation against the backdrop of global flows of capital and their attendant power structures. She replicates, dismembers and recombines familiar materials and objects in her hand-built sculptures that focus attention on the systems of value with which we live. Partegàs also draws closely on her personal history addressing experiences, and effects, of disjunction and dislocation.
Stephen Lichty works in both sculpture and performance. His sculptures and assemblages amplify a Minimalist aesthetic, his interest lying in the allusive qualities of materials, forms, and placements. His work allows for symbolic, ritualistic, or personal interpretations of his transformations of materials and configurations of objects.
This event takes place 11am-1pm in the Novack Lecture Hall, across the outdoor courtyard from the Wattis Galleries,
on the second level of the Simpson Family Makers Building.
