Before you begin

Members of your household, such as your spouse, domestic partner, or children—may be eligible for benefits like healthcare, dental, or vision. Add these individuals as dependents in Workday to get started. Note that while dependents may also be your beneficiaries, these are separate designations in Workday.

Benefit changes, including adding a spouse or dependent, can only be made during Open Enrollment. Outside of that period, changes are only permitted after a qualifying life event, such as marriage, birth, or adoption.

If your spouse or dependent becomes covered elsewhere, you may remove them from your benefits by following these steps.

1 Run the Dependents report

You can also select "Benefits and Pay" from the menu bar on the left under Personal and then scroll down and click on "Dependents".

2 Review information, Confirm and Continue.

This section outlines your beneficiaries and the plans in which they are designated.

3 To Add a dependent

Click the "Add" button to create a new dependent or click the "Edit" button to update an existing dependent.

  • Click the pencil icon to modify a field and the checkmark icon to save changes to a field.
  • You must designate a Reason for either adding or changing a dependent.

Once your edit has been approved, you will notice that your Coverage will change.

4 Click Submit

Once you add or update a dependent, you may also need to update your Federal Tax elections, as well as your benefit elections (see Request a Benefit Change for steps).

Note: You may receive an alert to verify your HSA plan (if applicable)

5 Review each plan to ensure accuracy

It is possible to remove a dependent from medical but still have them on vision.

If you have the HSA plan you will need to reelect this plan.

  1. Select
  2. Confirm and Continue

You will then have the option to update your Contribution. Save.

6 Review and Sign

It’s important to review your changes carefully and approve them to finalize your updates. Be sure to check the plan details, effective date, and who is covered.

6 Select "I Accept" and Submit

Once submitted, you’ll see a confirmation page.

To keep a copy for your records, click Print at the bottom of the screen.

If you need to make changes, visit the Benefits and Pay Hub, select Needs Attention, and click Edit under Benefit Event (available only during Open Enrollment).
