Using MURAL in Your Teaching
MURAL helps facilitate classroom activity online by creating and capturing notes and diagrams with students as well as collaboratively designed templates to organize ideas. A variety of problem-solving activities can be conducted with students.
Our MURAL implementation is organized by our academic divisions. Each division has its own workspace. Each workspace has any number of Public and Private Rooms. Faculty can create multiple Open or Private Rooms based on their courses or class projects.
Accessing MURAL
MURAL can be accessed at https://app.mural.co/signin using any browser or mobile device. There is also a free mobile app available. Go to the App Store to download MURAL for iPad and iPhone.
- Originally funded by a NEH CARES grant, funding covers 1,000 active users, so low-residency programs, studio-based courses and ideation-based seminars will be prioritized.
- Library staff and the divisional directors are partnering on management of MURAL. Directors will help track licenses used and clarify needs in programs.
- Current students and faculty can explore our Trial MURAL Workspace with their cca.edu email address.
- Log in using your CCA email address but with a separate password.
MURAL Usage at CCA
CCA's MURAL is organized into four division-level Workspaces (Architecture, Design, Fine Arts, and Humanities & Sciences) . For our purposes, UDIST is under the Humanities & Sciences Division. If you feel that you should receive access but have not, please contact your division's director and not the Help Desk. Anyone already in a Workspace can add new faculty members — simply use the Invite button in the upper right.
Course Rooms
Faculty should create Private Rooms for their courses named in the following manner: ANIMA-1000-1-2021FA Animation 1. This standard order for the section code, semester, and course title helps everyone uniquely identify your class. Private Rooms prevent you from accidentally exposing student work or enrollment information to everyone in your division's Workspace.
Faculty invite students to their room. To do so, follow MURAL's instructions for adding collaborators to a room. Students will also use CCA accounts, there is no need to invite them as guests.
Faculty may also want to create Open Rooms. The boards inside Open Rooms can be viewed by any member of a Workspace (whether they are faculty, students, or staff). Open Rooms are public within your Division Workspace. They may be useful for open crits, community exhibitions, as shared studio spaces, or for hosting Boards you want accessible by default to everyone within the Division.
