Selling Artwork, Goods or Services in the U.S.

Last updated on Sep 23, 2025

Under current U.S. immigration laws, engaging in activities that involve selling goods or services, including artwork or crafts, without proper employment authorization may be considered unauthorized employment. Such actions can have serious implications for your F1 status and future immigration benefits. Selling goods or artwork, even on campus or at a one-time event, can be considered employment under U.S. immigration regulations. F-1 students are not permitted to engage in employment without prior authorization (such as CPT, OPT, or on-campus employment approval).

CCA Art & Craft Fair: Because selling at the fair involves receiving payment, currently enrolled F-1 students are not eligible to participate as vendors.

If you are unsure about your specific situation or have questions about employment authorization, please contact ISS
