Financial support and scholarships

SF State will strive to keep your total cost of attendance (tuition, fees, and room and board) as close as possible to what you would have incurred at CCA. To help achieve this, SF State will work to coordinate financial aid packages to keep your net costs substantially equivalent or lower.

Reduced academic residency requirement

As a teach-out student, you will receive a waiver of SF State's standard academic residency requirements (i.e., the minimum number of credits you are required to complete in person at SF State to earn your degree). This ensures you only need to complete your remaining major and degree requirements without being forced to take extra units simply to meet an institutional minimum.

Streamlined admissions and waived fees

If you are a CCA student in good academic standing (a CCA GPA of 2.0 or higher), you will be admitted into your corresponding aligned program upon submission of the Cal State Apply application and verification of your academic standing and required documentation. You will not be required to submit a personal statement, essay, or portfolio. Additionally, the standard admission application fees are waived for eligible CCA teach-out students.

Credit and general education transfer

SF State will accept all credits earned at CCA, including credits that CCA previously accepted from other institutions, to the extent permissible and feasible, and will work to apply those credits toward degree completion with a focus on maintaining your timeline toward degree.

If you have completed CCA’s core General Education (GE) requirements, your lower-division GE requirements at SF State will be waived, with the exception of the CSU “Golden Four” (oral communication, written communication, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning).

SF State will waive the Upper Division Arts and Humanities GE requirement and will evaluate your remaining coursework to determine whether it satisfies additional upper-division or other GE requirements.

Campus-specific degree requirements, such as SF State Studies, will be entirely waived for transferring CCA students.

International Students

SF State will waive any additional English-language proficiency testing or documentation requirements for international students transferring under this agreement, recognizing that CCA has already confirmed English-language proficiency for full admission and enrollment.

Important for SFSU applicants

While the SFSU teach-out process is being finalized, we recommend that interested students complete both of the following steps:

1. Begin your SFSU (Cal State Apply) application. You can begin your application now and save your progress while you gather information and prepare to apply.
2. Complete the CCA Teach-Out Interest Form. This will help CCA identify students interested in the CSU teach-out pathways and coordinate with our CSU partners as implementation continues. When the Fall 2027 application submission period opens on October 1, 2026, you’ll be able to return to Cal State Apply, review your information, and submit your application.

Admissions and Enrollment Timeline

The timeline below provides an overview of the admissions and enrollment process. Some requirements may vary depending on your academic program, financial aid eligibility, housing plans, or international student status. Contact SFSU's admissions office (see contact info below) with any questions.

• Application opens: SFSU will begin reviewing  teach-out applications. Additional application details will be shared as they become available.
• Approximately 2–3 weeks after submitting your application - Admission decision: You can generally expect to receive your admission decision and initial transfer credit evaluation. SFSU will contact you if additional information or materials are needed.
• Fall 2026 - Information session: Attend an SFSU information session. Session details will be shared as they become available.
• Fall 2026 - Official transcripts (if applicable): If you previously attended another college or university, SFSU may ask you to request official transcripts directly from those institutions.
• October 1, 2026 - FAFSA opens: Submit the 2027–28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible, designating San Francisco State University as a recipient.
• Spring 2027 - Financial aid offer: SFSU expects to provide admitted students with their financial aid offer and estimated cost of attendance after required financial aid materials have been received and processed.
• Spring 2027 - Housing application: Students interested in campus housing should complete the SFSU housing application. Additional housing information will be shared as it becomes available.
• March 15, 2027 - SEVIS records transfer: F-1 international students should request transfer of their SEVIS record beginning on this date, with a SEVIS record release date after CCA classes end on May 10, 2027, and before SFSU fall classes begin. SFSU and CCA’s International Student Services team will provide instructions to affected students.
• Date to be announced - Campus visit: SFSU will share information about opportunities to visit campus as details become available.
