ARCHT-2200: History of Arch 1: Antiquity to Baroque

Course Description

This course examines architecture, cultural landscapes, and urban forms around the world in the modern period, roughly from 1700 to the present day, examining how buildings, landscapes, and cities reflect ordinary life, including how social inequalities, working-class life, colonialization, and slavery impact the built environment. The course focuses on how architecture informs how we make sense of the world and, at the same time, performs an integral role in constructing power, gender, and familial identities, reflecting images of class, ethnicity, and politics.
