FURNT-3120: Design/Make: Soft

Course Description

This is one of four Furniture program courses focused on specialized craft-based skill development. Students learn the considerations of textiles and fibers in relation to furniture and woodworking, as one-of-a-kind concepts or designs for production. Technical aspects of both historical and current construction techniques are explored through research and visits to galleries, studios, and showrooms.

Techniques explored may include patterning, sewing, felting, and woodworking. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice specialized techniques as a method of design development and gain an understanding of “soft” surfaces and forms whether in the form of personal expression or design for production.
