ILLUS-3137: Tools: Character Loops

Course Description

This course will explore the unique topic of loops in animation; both in concept and the craft. Projects will experiment with various techniques for animating scenes with characters including cycles, weaving loops, maximum loops, permanent drawings, and looped storytelling. Students will explore the history of cyclical media and their contemporary application in advertising, internet art, and new media. Screenings will explore repetitive temporalities and short-form animation (gifs, installation). We will explor the complexity of endless media as it relates to philosophy and its unique relationship to labor. We will also explore viewership through the display and exhibition of loops. All levels of animation experience are welcome and will benefit from this class.
