Description:
Animation Workshops are a series of courses that teach essential skills about a specific topic within animation. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will engage in rigorous study about a specific subject matter. The goal of Animation Workshops is to produce work that illustrates the skills learned. These courses are open to all CCA students who have completed CORE D1 and 4D.This course is designed as an attempt to address visual problems that can best be solved using stop motion animation, for both beginners and for advanced students. Students who have previously taken this class are welcome to take it as it supports animation techniques unique to this class. For those students who have never had an opportunity to explore what stop motion has to offer this course will guide you through several progressive steps utilizing as many as five or perhaps six different stop motion techniques. These various means of expression can be almost intoxicating to want to explore further. Techniques such as Found Objects animation, Clay animation, Paper animation, Pixillation, and Puppet animation will be explored and supported. Advanced Students, having weathered the introductory portion of this class, can go beyond pre-planned assignments who wish to develop as film makers who use stop motion animation as their means of expression. Past students might create projects extending beyond the constraints of one semester’s time limitations. Armed with this freedom, a student needn’t wait to develop a junior or senior project in order for them to realize a completed concept, but regardless, those junior and senior projects are welcomed to participate in this class as well.Specialties of this course include sculpture for stop motion animation, set design and fabrication for stop motion animation, mold making/casting, and advanced puppet fabrication for stop motion animation.
