Description:
This multidisciplinary studio course explores the intersection of sculpture, animation, film and anatomy through an imaginative exploration of the human and animal figure. Engaging in creative and detailed studies of the human and animal form, you’ll uncover how structure and movement can shape compelling visual art across both still and time-based media.Beginning with observational drawing and clay modeling from skeletons, skulls, and live models, the course builds a strong anatomical foundation before expanding into the motion and expressiveness of living forms. In the second half of the semester, you’ll bring your studies to life—designing and constructing kinetic works such as puppets, automata, and stop-motion characters that bridge fine art and animation.In-class demonstrations, projects, and individualized mentorship support each student’s personal creative path, integrating insights from art history, contemporary practice, and scientific study.
