Description:
In this advanced level workshop, we will simultaneously explore the many histories of clay, while developing a body of work that investigates and builds upon these various legacies. Pairing historical lectures that unpack ceramic history from the ancient to the present, alongside technical demonstrations, thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects, we will form a holistic understanding of clay’s past as a conduit to propel us in making work in a contemporary setting. Please note this course is open to undergraduates (CERAM-2700-2 or CERAM-3700-2) and graduate level students (FINAR-6040-4)
