Description:

Join us as we dive into the world of comics-making in the Philippines, reading the works of cartoonists who have used the artform to document life, culture and politics, and explore folklore and religious influences in the archipelago. We will trace the beginnings of komiks publishing, spotlight key Filipino cartoonists’ contributions to the American mainstream comics industry, and examine how the small press and self-publishing scene in the Philippines has redefined comics as a tool for creative expression, activism, and awareness of issues that impact the larger global community.
