Description:
This is an experimental design studio and the city will be the lab. Students will be introduced, through practical explorations, experimentations, and investigations, to the social, economic and political landscape of San Francisco. Through rigorous research and made work students will question what mechanisms could design create to manifest change? Projects will be created as both solutions and catalysts for change. The class will inquire about human interaction and social discourse and will cover subjects such as urban and participatory design and public and guerrilla art through lectures and reading materials. There will be three major projects, one group project and two individual and collaborative projects. The course will aim to work in collaboration with local organizations in order to create a bigger impact on proposed projects. The class is open to all design disciplines.
