Description:
Transition to Professional Practice is designed to familiarize students with the skills, knowledge, and network practices necessary to transition from graduate school into professional practice. A series of exercises will familiarize the student with industry greats from a global perspective, with networking and professional communication skills, and with practices and techniques related to career development. Projects include the design of a portfolio website, presenting and defending case studies, writing a cover letter, and creating a personal identity and professional profile. Guest visits and critiques from global industry leaders — including entrepreneurs, design leaders, recruiters, and more — will expose students to career opportunities suited to their skills and interests. Discussion topics include an overview of the design profession and areas of specialization. We will also cover using social media for professional networking, peer-to-peer review and critique, and helping each other through the job search and the interview processes.
