Course Description:Explores material, structure, weight, movement; the relationship between form and function; traditional and nontraditional materials and method; relevance of historical and current context. Any and all art, design, aesthetic work and theory is both reference and source. Projects are the means to refine individual expression and to practice conceptual and critical thought.Section Description:Shoes is an investigation into historic and current trends in shoe design and fabrication processes. Students will use this investigation to define and develop their own unique designs in footwear.This class will introduce students to the methodologies of shoe design. Arranged around multiple scaling studio projects, students will design unique footwear using both accepted and experimental methodologies....wooden lasts, vacuum forming, hacking existing models, 3D printing, color and material investigation, and eventually creating prototypes for their own shoe designs.This class will have a hands on making focus from design development to production. It will introduce traditional and contemporary prototyping practices, global production methods, and 2D/digital communication of intended designs.
