Description:
Step into the full collaborative process of filmmaking. In this core production course, you’ll experience every stage of creating a film—from development and pre-production to shooting, editing, and exhibition—while rotating through key creative and technical roles. You’ll learn how story, image, sound, and performance come together through the work of directors, producers, cinematographers, designers, editors, and sound artists. Workshops and hands-on projects build practical skills in story development, visual design, script breakdowns, scheduling, budgeting, lighting, sound recording, and post-production. Working in teams, you’ll apply these tools to bring original ideas to the screen, balancing creative experimentation with professional rigor. Class screenings and discussions will expose you to diverse cinematic styles and production methods, while critiques help refine your aesthetic and collaborative instincts. Throughout the semester, you’ll plan and execute shoots on location and on CCA’s Production Stage, gaining experience with on-set communication, problem-solving, and leadership. You’ll analyze exemplary works, troubleshoot your own productions, and learn how to manage the many moving parts that make a film succeed. By the end of the course, you’ll not only understand how films are made—you’ll have made one. Your completed project will demonstrate both artistic vision and technical command, grounding you for advanced work in film and media.
