Description:

Wkshp: Immersive Film and Media: VR and Beyond This studio class will explore Immersive digital media systems, virtual reality, Spherical and 360º environments. What does it mean to create and enter an immersive environment as a spectator or a participant? What are the differences and similarities of these related systems? As we try to define some of these catchall (yet to be defined) varied immersive 360, spherical and Virtual Reality environments, we will experiment and create our own works. As these new technologies emerge becoming increasingly more accepted, the tools, systems and workflow required to create these works, are also transforming. Discussions will include historical and current context, ethical and aesthetic concerns. With a film media-based emphasis, we will experiment and explore new spherical/VR/360 cameras, mobile platforms and custom rigs currently available to artists. We will work collaboratively and individually to create immersive video/film environments using these new forms of media to engage and envelope a viewer. There will be Guest Artists and field trips TBD.
