Description:
This pivotal mentorship course guides you through a critical milestone in your development as a filmmaker: the Junior Review. Through individual one-on-one meetings, group critiques, peer presentations, and reflective writing, you will articulate your artistic vision and build a cohesive narrative about your work. You'll develop new film work, craft a compelling artist/director statement, and develop the language to contextualize your creative practice within your influences and aspirations. An ongoing online journal will help you explore your conceptual and stylistic trajectories, while group critiques foster a collaborative community of makers who can thoughtfully discuss and advance each other's work. The course culminates in the Junior Review—a comprehensive faculty panel evaluation where you'll present your portfolio and artistic vision. Through mock reviews and iterative feedback, you'll gain the speaking and writing skills necessary to confidently communicate your work's influences, conceptual foundations, and stylistic goals. Guest filmmakers and presentations on Bay Area resources will broaden your understanding of professional pathways and creative communities. This course focuses on your individual goals as an artist and filmmaker, preparing you for the advanced independent work and professional opportunities ahead.
