Description:

What does it mean today to be a filmmaker, an artist, a media-based project director, a storyteller? With the advent of AI, 360/VR, and other digital formats, platforms, and venues, Filmmaking is a changing landscape. As these new technologies emerge becoming increasingly more accepted (or not!), the tools, systems and workflow required to create these works are also transforming. This studio course is designed to help you as a filmmaker keep up with, adapt to and thrive in a new world of media arts – through explorations of Film, Media and Installation combining concept and cross-platform practical technical knowledge in a global context. Research and create in areas of your personal interest or hot topics ranging from genetics to time-travel, AI (Artificial Intelligence) to VR (Virtual Reality), BioEthics, Health, Social Justice, Environmental Ecology – or other areas of choice. Your works may be narrative, non-narrative, linear or nonlinear, representational, or abstract, created independently or collaboratively. What formats and presentation platforms interest you most? Is it theatrical film, media-based sculpture, multi-channel installation, immersive VR, controversial AI, interactive game arts, streaming/online, web, museums/galleries, interdisciplinary, architecture, innovative others? Within a supportive environment, discussions will include historical and current context, ethical and aesthetic concerns of Film, Media, AI, VR and emerging technologies. In this studio course, you’ll learn to take your project from concept to completion—shaping raw material into finished work that reflects your vision and voice.Technical sessions will include industry-standard editing tools and skills commonly used in Film and Media Arts Production and Post-Production, including but not limited to: Image Generation (Photoshop), aspect ratio, resolutions, formats, presentation venues, editing for varied formats/presentation modes (Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve). * Field Trips and guest artists provide inspiration and potential source material for final works that will be presented and exhibited in an end-of -semester show open to the public. Most important for your best work is to follow your passion creating work you are passionate about! This course is open to Undergraduate and Graduate Students, beginning to advanced.
