Description:
This course is designed for advanced-level FILM students. Over the course of the semester students will conceive, develop, write produce, direct, and edit two short digital film or media projects in a workshop environment and using professional practices. The course begins with a producing practicum looking at the five phases of production (development, pre-production, production, post-production, marketing/distribution) from a producer's perspective, including the detailed process of script breakdown, scheduling, and budgeting. These filmmaking fundamentals will be brought into practice in the field. Students will focus on story development, creating character, use of locations, actions, situations, and themes. Students will be expected to crew on each other's productions according to industry-standard production roles. Every week, the course will take place across hybrid platforms – in-person (classroom) for one session, and remotely (on Zoom) for one session. There will also be asynchronous materials on Moodle to supplement and enhance our class sessions.Hybrid course sections will be delivered both online and in-person. Required online synchronous meeting times are listed as the meeting pattern for this course section. Additional course components will be delivered asynchronously or in-person as outlined in the syllabus.
