Description:
In this course, students will explore new ways to create physical forms by layering together a variety of digital and analogue tools. This class will focus on the sculptural possibilities of experimenting with the 3D printer, laser cutters, 3D scanners, photogrammetry and a variety of powerful but accessible 3D design programs. We will consider how these tools might play a role in the fabrication of sculptural elements and the development of each of the student’s individual body of work. We will spend time discussing concepts, doing studio visits, going on field trips, workshopping ideas and examining what it means to collaborate with a robot. ____
Fine Arts Seminars are intended to broaden and clarify students' perspective on contemporary art practice. Each semester these seminars shift in focus and subject matter. Seminars may concentrate on art from the perspectives of art history, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and so forth, or may take the form of a discipline-based critique focusing on the history, theory, and practice of painting, sculpture, and photography, among others.
