Description:

Fine Arts Seminars are intended to broaden and clarify students' perspective on contemporary art practice. Each semester these seminars shift in focus and subject matter. Seminars may concentrate on art from the perspectives of art history, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and so forth, or may take the form of a discipline-based critique focusing on the history, theory, and practice of painting, sculpture, and photography, among others.

This course will offer graduate students a multitude of opportunities to experiment, expand and enrich their studio work through 3-Dimensional practices. Students will become familiarized with many of the "making" facilities CCA has to offer including the metal shop, the model shop, wood shop and the digital fabrication lab. Students will work closely with the instructor to design and fabricate sculptural or mixed media pieces that relate directly to their existing research and studio practice. In this class, students will have an opportunity to experiment with mold making, body casting as well as how and where to source found materials. Our classes will be held on the CCA main campus unless we are doing Dogpatch studio visits or critiques. There will be field trips scheduled throughout the semester to search for meaningful and bizarre materials, external maker spaces and exhibitions.
