This course is the second of two courses taken over the final year at CCA to develop and complete the written thesis and thesis exhibition project. It encompasses both completion and practicum for writing the MFA thesis and the further development and completion of the thesis exhibition. The written thesis is created in conjunction with the thesis exhibition project, both which are completed in the student's final semester at CCA. The first 9 weeks of the course will continue development and completion of the thesis exhibition. Week 10-15 will focus on the completion of the written thesis. In week 1-9, with the support of a faculty curator and professional preparators, each student installs an exhibition of their own work and assists artists showing on alternative dates. The course is designed to give students significant experience with exhibition making and to benefit from assessments and critiques of their thesis work in the public realm. The final review will take place within the the MFA exhibition at Minnesota Street Project. All students will also participate in walkthroughs by curators from various Bay area institutions). The course also includes professional development, rigorous and frank discussion of some behind-the-scenes highlights and pitfalls of the current art world as well as strategies for success post graduate school. These conversations are organized around panel discussions, talks on professional subjects such as financial planning/organization and website development, and reading assignments and presentations. After the conclusion of the thesis exhibitions, beginning in week 10 the curriculum will focus on the completion and submission of the final written thesis. Both group and individual conferences with fall thesis faculty will be scheduled to finish the thesis document. A scheduled public reading will conclude the semester.
