Description:

This course will provide the knowledge you need to use the full array of machines at the SFCCA wood studio. It is recommended for any student interested in using the facilities on a regular basis and it's a great chance to make real things out of real durable materials. After completing this course, you'll be able to walk into any wood shop in the world and understand its fundamental manufacturing processes. Topics covered in detail will include the care and use of hand tools, hand power tools and larger woodworking machinery, as well as the fundamental techniques of carving, shaping, finishing, joinery, basic furniture design practices, and the use of sustainably harvested wood. Processes will be demonstrated and experienced through a series of hands-on projects of your own design. The class will emphasize precision and the development of craft skills which will enhance your making no matter what your major. Our faculty and staff will be at your side to guide you through this exciting process.
