Description:

Build foundational skills in furniture design and woodworking in the newly expanded Furniture Studio located in Double Ground. In this course you'll study hands-on the materiality and structural potential of wood as a vital material for any object based practice. Whether your interests are rooted in design, the arts or architecture you'll learn fundamental skills to integrate into your creative practice. Instruction will support craft-based skill development with an emphasis on problem solving, precision, and an understanding of the practical, creative, and ecological potential of this vital natural material.Research, drawing and model making will support concept development and creative problem solving. Two core projects for the semester will be the focus of this class. You'll have the opportunity to work in an advanced, well-supported studio environment with experienced faculty and staff. Furniture Fundamentals is a prerequisite for all advanced Furniture studio courses and is required for access to the Machine Room.Note this course is cross-listed with CRAFT 2700-2 and CRAFT 3700-2.
