Description:
This course will investigate the limited edition object — not as a static set of rules but as an iterative tool in the hands of the designer/maker. Translating design concepts into form and material, students will be working with physical materials to create works that push past expected definitions of the designed object – and cultivate an interplay between concept and craft. Projects from this course will be featured in an exhibition planned for January 2026.
Working primarily in the Furniture Studio and with access to general shops in Double Ground, students will either gain or further develop their making skills and familiarity with the CCA Shops Environment. Creating relationships with materials and making processes is key to project success, and students are encouraged to embrace a paced approach to production of their projects. Students should expect to learn at least two new making processes (ex: bending wood, plaster casting, lathe turning) which will serve as a springboard for their final project.
This course will receive additional support from the Wornick Distinguished Professor Endowment. The Visiting Professor(s) will be selected for their professional expertise related to the content of the course and will work directly with students throughout the semester
