Description:
Production 1 is the first of two courses in which students explore object design + fabrication at varying scales. In this first course students design and fabricate designed objects using a variety of craft-based techniques, focusing on objects at handheld or tabletop scale. Students will research precedents and cultural contexts, and engage critically in dialogue about current practices to take a values-driven approach to design, materials and production. Engage as a creative entrepreneur and develop an understanding about object value and pricing, outsourcing, and relationship building for professional practice. Through off-campus studio visits and field trips, meet a range of creatives working in the field and learn about venues involved in the business of making, curating, and exhibiting handmade designed objects.
