Description:

Visual Design for Games explores the compositional elements that are vital to creating clear and compelling artwork for games, both analog and digital. Our core studies revolve around the general principles of design and layout, but we give special attention to optimizing our branding, typography, imagery, and symbols in ways that communicate effectively, build thematic impact, and attract players to our games. Our lessons demonstrate the optimal design standards for a range of formats and media, including board & card games, video games, general rule systems & scoresheets, micro RPG pages, packaging & promotional imagery, and more. We also discuss best practices for sourcing and integrating character art, scenics, and other illustrative assets into layouts.Throughout the semester, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and playtest your own game concepts — or to bring in your projects from other Game Arts courses — and use them as the basis for your visual design explorations.Game Arts Workshops are a series of courses that teach essential skills about a specific topic within Game Arts, including specific game forms, game technologies, or developments in the discipline or industry. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will engage in rigorous study about a specific subject matter. The goal of Game Arts workshops are to produce work that illustrates the skills learned. These courses are open to all CCA students who have completed CORE D1 and 4D.
