Description:
This seminar takes up a series of case studies in order to consider the ways in which exhibitions make history and define fields. The course considers a variety of formats for curatorial practice including museum and gallery exhibitions, biennials, blogs, collection installations, performance, discursive events, curatorial texts, and catalogs. Reading, in-class lectures, discussion, and assignments will encourage critical reflection on theme, thesis, juxtaposition and association as well as logistical, intellectual, and political aspects of making and viewing. Please note, this course will meet off-campus at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (701 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94103)
